Cynthia Forbes, violoncello
Cellist Cynthia Forbes performs in chamber and orchestral ensembles
throughout New England and is an enthusiastic advocate for both
classical and contemporary repertoire. She has appeared as soloist
with the New England String Ensemble, Boston Virtuosi, Syracuse
Camerata and other ensembles, and served as principal cellist with
these and many other orchestras. A graduate of Harvard University in
Anthropology and of Syracuse University as a recipient of a Graduate
Fellowship in Music, her esteemed teachers and mentors have included
George Neikrug, Benjamin Zander, Artur Balsam, Roman Totenberg,
Leonard Shure and Leon Kirchner. Ms. Forbes teaches cello and chamber
music at Indian Hill Music, where she is also active in developing an
exciting adult chamber ensemble program, and at Powers Music School
and Boston Latin School. In the summer she has been for many years on
the music faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School, and she
has served as soloist, principal cellist, and dedicated member of
Summer Music from Greensboro for twelve years. A number of works have
been written for and premiered by Ms. Forbes, including the Concerto
Grosso for Cello and String Orchestra by Vuk Kulenovic. She hopes to
release a cd of music by Kulenovic in January 2009.
